Moscow Denounces Munich Conference for Ignoring Attacks on Russian Civilians

(MENAFN) Russia has criticized the Munich Security Conference for failing to address what it calls Kiev’s “hellish terrorism” and attacks on Russian civilians, urging Western leaders to focus on these issues instead of providing additional military aid to Ukraine.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the comments following reports from Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov that a Ukrainian strike on the border region killed two people and injured five. The attack also disrupted power, heat, and water services and caused damage to residential buildings and vehicles.

Since the escalation of the conflict in 2022, Ukraine has frequently targeted Russian border regions with drones, artillery, and missile strikes, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties.

Zakharova said the conference should prioritize these attacks. “The Munich Security Policy Conference should discuss this hellish terrorism against the civilian population by the Kiev regime, rather than ways of pumping money into the ghouls on Bankova Street,” she said, referring to the seat of the Ukrainian government.

The Munich Security Conference opened Friday with more than 60 heads of state attending the three-day event. Its agenda covers not only the conflict in Ukraine but also growing tensions between the US and EU, with Western leaders expressing concern over the weakening of the “rules-based international order.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the rules-based order “no longer exists,” while French President Emmanuel Macron called on Europe to “accelerate its strategic autonomy.”

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is scheduled to address the conference and hold multiple meetings, focusing on expanding joint military production with international partners.
