Russia Begins Implementing Security Protocols in Arctic Region
The Arctic zone has devolved into a battleground for geopolitical competition, with escalating discord between Moscow and Western powers—and even fractures emerging within the Western alliance itself, according to Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department for European Affairs. He delivered these remarks during an interview with media on Tuesday.
Western nations bear responsibility for the mounting military-political confrontation unfolding across Arctic territories, Maslennikov stated. He pointed to expanded military drills conducted with growing frequency and scope throughout the region, coupled with the deployment of unilateral economic penalties.
Moscow has activated countermeasures—including military-technical initiatives—designed to safeguard Russian security objectives and national interests within Arctic domains, Maslennikov explained. These defensive actions do not target other nations and remain in full accordance with established international legal frameworks, he emphasized.
